Syllables

Topic: Syllables

Grade Level: First Grade

How I would use this in my classroom: I would show this video when introducing the concept of breaking down words. This video gives the students several different ways to break down words they are reading to make them into smaller and easier to understand pieces. The several different methods of learning how to figure out syllables will cater to the different types of learners I may encounter in my classroom.

How the students would benefit from viewing this video: By learning and understanding syllables, students will have better phonemic awareness and be able to both read and spell better. The students will now be able to practice this concept by following the examples and then using them when they are stuck on words that they find hard to pronounce.

Common Core State Standard: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllable, and sounds (phonemes).
